About This Position
OSU Agriculture is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist to provide front‑line support for desktop computers, printers, and related hardware across offices, classrooms, and computer labs. The role requires strong technical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a user‑focused approach to troubleshooting and training.
Key Responsibilities- Provide front‑line support for desktop computers, printers, and related hardware.
- Maintain and manage technology infrastructure in a variety of settings across OSU Agriculture.
- Keep accurate and up‑to‑date computer asset inventories.
- Prepare and generate equipment quotes, assist with technology acquisition, and ensure proper disposal of outdated equipment in accordance with university policies.
- Train faculty and staff on software, hardware, and best practices to enhance productivity and tech proficiency.
The OSU Agriculture Information Technology unit provides technology services, support and training for OSU Agriculture administration, Ferguson College of Agriculture, OSU Extension county, area and district offices, and OSU Ag Research and Field and Research Service Unit research stations. Required Qualifications- High School/GED (must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Bachelor’s degree and one year experience or six years of related experience.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for official duties.
- Experience and working knowledge of Windows OS and Mac OS, Windows Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Extensive knowledge of computer hardware and software failure analysis and problem remediation.
- Proficient knowledge of printer and scanner hardware configuration, driver installation, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of non‑server based backup systems, Wi‑Fi systems, information security practices, malware protection, antivirus, firewalls and user training.
- Ability to assist faculty and staff in computer hardware and software purchases, making decisions based on cost efficiency and functionality.
- Ability to teach and instruct faculty and staff in basic computer and software usage.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related area.
- 10 years of related experience or Master’s degree and 8 years of related experience.
- Certifications such as ITIL, CompTIA A+ Certified Computer Technician, CompTIA Network+ Certification, or similar.
