The Philanthropy Department is seeking a motivated, positive and dependable self-starter interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising and advancement. The Philanthropy Intern will support a variety of departmental activities, including donor engagement and stewardship, prospect research, special events and general office administration.
This position provides broad exposure to the work of a comprehensive philanthropy program and the important role charitable giving plays in advancing OMRF’s mission. The intern will work collaboratively with members of the Philanthropy team and may occasionally assist other departments with related projects.
Responsibilities include:- Assist with donor engagement and stewardship activities, including handwritten notes, telephone calls, mailings and other communications.
- Conduct research on prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors.
- Assist with the preparation of donor and prospect materials, reports, correspondence and presentations.
- Support donor tours of OMRF laboratories and facilities, including preparing materials, coordinating logistics and welcoming guests.
- Assist with the implementation of the OMRF Teen Leaders Program.
- Support annual fundraising and donor engagement events, including 241.
- Assist with event registration, guest communications, name badges, materials, setup, check-in and other event logistics.
- Provide administrative support, including filing, scanning, copying, assembling materials and maintaining organized electronic and paper records.
- Help welcome visitors, answer or route telephone calls and provide general office administrative support when needed.
- Assist with special projects involving donor relations, fundraising, communications, events and departmental operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
- Professional, dependable and comfortable interacting with donors, volunteers, staff and community members.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications or similar workplace technology.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when working with donor and organizational information.
Students pursuing degrees in nonprofit management, public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, business, political science or a related field are encouraged to apply.
Work Hours:This is a part-time internship with hours generally scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The specific weekly schedule will be determined based on departmental needs and the intern’s academic schedule. The intern will be expected to maintain a regular, agreed-upon schedule throughout the semester and notify the supervisor in advance of anticipated absences or schedule changes.
Occasional early morning, evening or special-event hours may be required.
This internship is limited to the Fall 2026 semester and will end in December 2026 on a date agreed upon by OMRF and the intern at the time of hire.
