Carl Albert State College’s Healthy Futures initiative works to improve access to health education, resources, and services for students and families throughout LeFlore County. Through Ameri Corps VISTA, the initiative strengthens partnerships among schools, healthcare providers, tribal organizations, community agencies, and other regional partners to identify health-related needs and barriers to accessing resources.
The VISTA Healthy Futures Associate will help build the long-term capacity of the initiative by assessing existing resources and community needs, strengthening partnerships, developing health and wellness tools, and creating systems that schools and community partners can continue to use beyond the VISTA service year. Activities may include developing resource directories and educational materials, coordinating information about health-related outreach opportunities, gathering partner feedback, tracking program activities and outcomes, and creating a sustainable Healthy Futures resource toolkit.
This position is ideal for someone interested in community health, education, outreach, partnership development, and improving access to resources for underserved communities.
The VISTA Healthy Futures Associate will build the capacity of the Healthy Futures initiative throughout LeFlore County. The member will collaborate with school nurses, counselors, administrators, healthcare agencies, tribal partners, community organizations, and other regional partners to identify health needs, existing resources, and barriers to access. The member will strengthen partnerships; develop health education materials, resource directories, and outreach tools; maintain information on community resources and events;
and create systems for organizing and sharing resources. The member will also gather partner feedback and aggregate program data, track activities and outcomes, and develop a year-end toolkit and transition materials to help schools and partners sustain Healthy Futures resources beyond the VISTA service year.
