Provides field and laboratory support for the Peanut and Small Grains Research Unit. The enrollee is not a federal employee and shall not sign federal documents, author articles for publication as a federal employee, coordinate federally funded research projects, present themselves as a government employee, make decisions on federally based research or supervise any government employees.
Responsibilities- Assist scientists with collecting, processing, performing required analysis and measurements of biological samples in the field and laboratory, then recording and checking all generated data. Work with the scientists to ensure all planned research activities are completed on schedule and with the requisite level of precision and accuracy.
- Provide training to other technicians on proper research techniques for procedures that are regularly performed in the field and laboratory.
- Coordinate with the scientists and other technicians to ensure personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies are available and well prepared so that all the planned research activities can be accomplished smoothly and on time.
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in lab and field sampling and processing, OR BA/BS Degree.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel.
- Health and Safety Considerations:
Position requires observing laboratory and field safety protocols, following animal care protocols, and demonstration of use of laboratory and field equipment. Any required safety training will be provided by the agency to the enrollee. - Required Safety Gear:
Standard PPE such as lab coat, safety glasses, gloves as needed along with any other safety gear required for the position/work. - Physical requirements:
The enrollee performs activities involved in collecting biological specimens, may include stooping, bending, reaching, and active walking. The enrollee may occasionally be required to do physical activity while wearing a respirator which requires extra effort. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
