District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home;
Bakery Department Manager. Positions that Report to you:
Apprentice Baker, Bakery Designer, Wrapper, Fryer.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting care, concern, and patience in all interactions.
- Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner in the designated department or elsewhere in the store.
- Learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks that enhance the shopping experience.
- Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers, including taking product orders.
- Check orders for the day and set up a timeline and production schedule.
- Prepare makeup, bake, and fry all department products as needed.
- Review the status and appearance of products for freshness, pulling by stale date.
- Invoice and put away product as instructed by the department manager.
- Anticipate product needs for the current and subsequent days.
- Inspect incoming products for quality, quantity, and mispicks.
- Understand and address maintenance issues related to bakery equipment.
- Check signage for correct labels on ad items.
- Review department for potential safety issues.
- Operate as a lead with bakery clerks.
- Prioritize orders per customer and department manager requests.
- Proof necessary items.
- Pull product from the freezer or cooler.
- Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
- Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
- Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Report to work on schedule and on time.
- Order supplies and merchandise items for the department (except cake decorating items).
- Review current product on the shelf, re‑merchandise, and dispose of outdated products.
- Write the department schedule and ensure employees are at work, on time, and find replacements when necessary in the manager’s absence.
- Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
- Ability to solve practical problems under limited standardization and interpret instructions.
- Proficient in arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to copy data, interview for basic information, guide people, and provide basic direction.
High school or equivalent experience; department training helpful; over six months up to one year of similar or related experience.
Physical RequirementsMust be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently; vision requirements; able to stoop, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
Working ConditionsExposed to flour, noise, and temperature extremes; frequent exposure to dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, and occasional cleaning chemicals/solvents. Fast‑paced environment with significant pressure.
Equipment UsedMixers, proof box, ovens, sheeter, rounder, dishwasher, fryer, telephone, intercom, cash register, label machine, shrink wrap machine, RPM, copy cake machine.
ContactsCustomers and the general public daily; suppliers/vendors weekly;
Federal/State Governmental or Regulatory Agencies yearly.
Has access to confidential information including sales.
