summary
under the direct supervision of the power line supervisor, the apprentice line technician level i‑v participates in the line technician apprentice training program, performs transmission line maintenance and construction activities, and develops sound, effective and safe work habits. The apprentice training program requires a minimum of five years to complete. It includes extensive on‑job training, formal training, and written study, some of which must be completed outside of work hours.
Satisfactory performance and continuous progress toward completion of the program is required.
- successfully completes all requirements of the line technician apprentice training program including formal training, on‑job training, outside education, and written study, some of which must be completed outside of work hours.
- maintains tools, equipment, and work environment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- follows all safe work practices, procedures, directions, and instructions relating to areas of responsibility.
- learn to perform and performs duties of a journeyman line technician, including maintenance on the transmission system and construction of transmission lines and facilities.
- works with and near high voltages in a safe manner and at times in adverse weather conditions.
- troubleshoots equipment and properly reports any problems noted.
- applies a thorough knowledge of phasing to ensure reliability and safety.
- maintains complete, current, and accurate records and reports related to areas of responsibility.
- coordinating with others in the department and other departments to ensure timely scheduling and completion of projects.
- coordinates with load dispatchers and safely takes clearances, switching and hot line orders.
- operates and maintains light and heavy equipment such as basket, digger trucks, and skid steers.
- restores service on transmission lines and substations under the supervision of a journeyman.

- education and experience: must be a high school graduate and have a minimum of one (1) year experience in two (2) or more of the following areas: operation of light and/or heavy equipment such as cranes or boom trucks, digger equipment, bucket trucks, or aerial man lift devices; construction, maintenance, or operation of an electrical distribution or transmission system; general construction or building experience as an electrician or apprentice electrician;
