Cotton Electric Cooperative is seeking a motivated individual to join our Line Operations Department as a Crewman.

As a Crewman, you'll work alongside our line crews to help construct, maintain, and restore the electric distribution system that powers homes, farms, and businesses throughout our service area. This position offers hands‑on experience with line construction, heavy equipment operation, outage restoration, and utility operations while serving the communities that depend on us every day.

SUMMARY

Assists line crews in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities. Supports outage restoration efforts, new construction projects, vegetation management activities, and routine system maintenance. Responds to after‑hours emergencies and works overtime as necessary to help ensure safe and reliable electric service to Cooperative members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies, procedures, OSHA regulations; which include the utilization of personal protection equipment, tailgate discussions and proper grounding, when applicable.
  • Ensures minimum outage time by assisting line operations in action necessary to safely restore service according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensures quality of new construction by assisting line operations in performing work required for building new line, temporary services and the retirement of idle services. Performs these duties within REA & Cotton Electric specifications.
  • Saves the Cooperative money by making efficient use of Cooperative time and resources and maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • Increases the efficiency of Line Operations by being willing to work after hours as the need arises.
  • Operate and assist with the operation of Cooperative vehicles and equipment, including skid steers, digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, backhoe and other heavy equipment as authorized and trained.
  • Load, unload, and organize materials, tools, and equipment required for maintenance and construction jobs.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and line constructions equipment safely and effectively.
  • Complies with OSHA standards by having a thorough knowledge of the requirements and rules which must be met to be classified as a qualified employee.
  • The crewman shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objectives of the cooperative.
  • Responsible for assisting with the Cooperative’s Vegetation Management Program.
  • Communication with Cooperative Members in a courteous manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in electric utility operations, construction, heavy equipment operation, tree trimming, or related outdoor work is preferred but not required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must have the ability to read and follow general written instructions. Must be able to complete work orders and communicate in written form.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical everyday problems. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

Must live within 30 minutes driving time of the main headquarters or other agreed upon location within the service territory.
