Responsibilities
- Install and alter new and existing electrical systems and equipment.
- Repair and maintain interior and exterior electrical systems and equipment.
- Repair and maintain motor and motor controllers.
- Install, repair and maintain primary high‑voltage distribution systems both overhead and underground.
- Provide rotating standby emergency service after 5 p.m., on weekends and holidays.
- Work overtime or shift work as required to complete tasks.
- Provide own basic hand tools and keep them in good working order.
- Perform snow and ice removal tasks when scheduled.
- Work in hazardous conditions such as high‑voltage, confined spaces, wet vaults, tunnels, and during adverse weather.
- Use the required personal protective equipment.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and exceeding 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work in restricted and confined spaces, climb poles, and operate heavy equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED (must be conferred before start date).
- Distribution Electrician experience:
- Level I – 2 years of electrical or powerline work.
- Level II – 4 years of electrical or powerline work.
- Level III – 6 years of electrical or powerline work.
- Level IV – 10 years of electrical or powerline work plus at least 1 year operating heavy equipment.
- Post‑secondary education in an electrical or mechanical field is acceptable and preferred.
- Certifications and Licenses:
- Levels I‑III – OSU certification in trenching/shoring and confined‑space entry within 6 months of hire.
- Level IV – OSU or other certification in trenching/shoring and confined‑space entry.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months of hire for heavy equipment operation.
- Valid driver’s license at hire and ongoing maintenance.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience with AiM CMMS and mobile technology.
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance inspections and electrical asset inventory.
- Proficiency with exterior lighting, secondary voltage systems, medium‑voltage cabling, vaults, transformers, and switches.
- Understanding of industry codes, medium‑voltage splice/termination, and electrical distribution systems.
- Vocational/technical journeyman‑level expertise in electrical, electronic, line‑man, motor repair, or data technician.
