Location: Alfalfa County, Beaver County, Cimarron County, Ellis County, Harbor County, Major County, Texas County, Woods County, Woodward County.
Candidates may be required to complete background checks, drug screening, a physical abilities demonstration, and obtain a commercial driver’s license if necessary.
Basic PurposeOperate power equipment and perform related tasks in the maintenance and repair of highways.
Typical Functions- Operate heavy machinery such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front‑end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi‑trailers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needed.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Repair failures in roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
- Repair and/or replace signs, posts, guardrails, and fences.
- Provide traffic control assistance using a stop/slow sign or flag to direct highway traffic.
- Apply herbicide to highway right‑of‑ways to control weeds.
- Remove debris including tires, animal carcasses, spilled items, and other obstacles.
Level I: Basic level – work under close supervision, operate and maintain power equipment, perform unskilled and semi‑skilled tasks.
Level II: Career level – perform skilled work at full performance level, operate heavy equipment for highway construction or repair, and perform routine maintenance duties.
Education and Experience- Level I: none required.
- Level II: one year of experience operating heavy equipment.
Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license at time of employment. May require a commercial driver’s license, class A or B with appropriate endorsements. ODOT employees must obtain a CDL tank within five months of appointment.
