About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a Buyer to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, purchasing, and expediting materials, equipment, supplies, and services to support Methanex Corporation’s Medicine Hat operations. This role ensures all procurement activities align with Methanex’s policies, procedures, and standards.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Source and procure materials, equipment, supplies, and services in compliance with corporate policies, provincial regulations, and industry best practices
  • Develop and issue competitive bid packages, RFPs, and purchase orders to support operational and project needs
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure materials and services meet specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules
  • Expedite critical purchases and resolve supply or delivery issues through proactive communication and coordination
  • Partner with Finance to reconcile invoice disputes, support asset disposals, and ensure accurate, timely processing of purchase transactions
  • Maintain accurate inventory and materials data, ensuring compliance with established guidelines and stock level controls
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, system upgrades, and data integrity across procurement and warehouse functions
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to Methanex’s procurement standards, workflows, and documentation requirements
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of procurement training and end-user support to enhance process understanding and efficiency
  • Collaborate with peers across Methanex sites to share best practices and maintain consistency in procurement processes
  • Provide relief and cross-functional support to procurement and warehouse teams to ensure seamless operations
  • Actively uphold Methanex’s core values, Responsible Care®, and one-team culture in all procurement activities
About You

To qualify, you will need to possess an undergraduate degree or diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline
, along with 3-5 years of experience of progressive experience in a chemical, energy, or another similar industrial setting
.

Additionally, the following skills or experience are required:

  • Strong negotiating skills, including experience with contract negotiation, creation, and management
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of programs
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Experience with Maximo software is an asset
  • Experience purchasing items regulated under an owner-user program or by the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) is an asset
