American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical position working night shifts with a diverse adult-to-geriatric patient population and a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
Details- Medical/Surgical unit in a hospital setting with 34 beds and an average daily census of 27
- Patient population includes adults to geriatrics with diagnoses such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, small bowel obstruction, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, sepsis, HTN, hypo/hyperglycemia, prostatectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, ostomy creation/reversal, exploratory laparotomy, and bowel resections
- Equipment includes NGT, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound vacs
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
- Charting via Epic (preferred);
Pyxis and SBAR communication also used - Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Active RN license — GA or Compact license required
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, peripheral line care/management, blood product administration, colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, wound care, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Ability to perform heparin and insulin administration
- Experience with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply

- Navy blue scrubs required
- Travelers who have previously worked or been employed at any facility within this health system must have been away for a full year before being eligible to apply as a traveler
- RTO must be finalized prior to consideration; maximum of 7 days RTO per contract
- RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
- RTO blackout dates apply for 5/25–5/27 — time off during this period cannot be accommodated
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work 2 of them
- Major holidays include:
Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day - No alternate shift or schedule requests are permitted — the posted shift is firm
- Travel nurse pairs may not be assigned to the same shift on the same unit
