Are you an experienced hydrometry professional who enjoys being out in the field?
Do you have hands‑on experience of hydrometric monitoring, equipment and surveying, and want to develop your career within a growing environmental consultancy?
We’re looking for a Hydrometry Consultant to join our Physical Data and Hydrometry Team within APEM’s Freshwater Quality and Processes Division.
This is a great opportunity to work on a wide range of water projects, including water company drought and water resources plans, water quality investigations, drought permit applications and monitoring programmes
. You’ll be part of a wider multidisciplinary team of water and environmental specialists, working together to help protect people and the environment through high-quality hydrometric data collection and analysis.
The role is predominantly field-based
, so if you enjoy getting out on site and working with monitoring equipment, this could be a great fit. You’ll be involved in hydrometric data collection, installing and maintaining monitoring and telemetry equipment, undertaking surveys and then processing, analysing and reporting on the data you collect.
Your existing hydrometry experience is really important to us. You may have experience with flow gauging techniques, continuous flow measurement, water level monitoring, telemetry or bathymetry, alongside wider surveying such as river cross sections or topographical surveys. We’re also interested in people who enjoy working with their hands and are confident using power and hand tools.
There’s plenty of variety too. You may have the opportunity to get involved in water quality and hydro ecology monitoring, while working alongside specialists in water resources, hydrology, geomorphology, ecology and environmental assessment.
As you develop within the role, you’ll have the opportunity to build your experience beyond fieldwork, including client and regulator liaison, data analysis, report writing, tender development and project management
. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues while developing towards greater responsibility and independence.
This role is ideally suited to someone based within easy travelling distance of Stockport
, allowing you to access the team's equipment and support the practical requirements of the role.
The role will involve regular travel to client sites and field locations, so a full UK driving licence is essential
