Description
Under the direction of the assigned manager, oversee the operations of receiving, cataloging circulation, acquisitions, interlibraryloan, reserve and periodical processing of library public or technical services; perform paraprofessional duties in the technical or public service areas of the library; with an understanding of appropriate purchasing, and accounting policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws governingcopyrights.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is a deep class with Library Technician classification inwhich incumbents shall be assigned to any level, provided theypossess the required education, experience and/or certification forthe class to which they are to be assigned. Incumbents shall beadvanced to a higher-level classification upon successful completion of the qualifications needed for the higher-levelclass.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Oversee a variety of daily activities for the library; open and close the library; monitor the library security system; secure bookdrops, money trays and computer terminals; prepare posters and displays. Perform library cash transactions including giving change for copiers, collecting fines for overdue and lost materials and giving refunds; balance the daily cash report.
- Assist to develop and implement library policies and procedures and federal copyright laws; apply, implement, interpret and explain library policies and procedures to patrons.
- Maintain confidential patron accounts; issue student and library cards.
- Monitor a database collection of all print, media and digital collections for the District; resolve discrepancies and regulate the electronic removal of bibliographic records from the automated database and withdrawal of obsolete and damaged library materials; maintain library books and other materials in usable condition according to established mending procedures and tools; prepare volumes for binding.
- Perform inter-library loan duties encompass requesting and lending physical and digital materials.
- Direct the circulation of library materials and other departmental materials, such as laptops; assist with annual electronic collection inventories; discharge library materials and assist with the preparation and distribution of notices for overdue library materials and unresolved library charges; input data into District student account files to ensure accurate assessment and collection of library charges and fines; maintain patron accounts; issue library cards;
update status and patron information. - Maintain security of the library collection; monitor the book detection system.
- Monitor ordering, receiving and invoicing of books requested by library, administrative and academic staff; package and ship items; receive shipments; reconcile shipments, invoices and statement discrepancies; resolve problems and issues arising from the purchase of books and other library materials.
- Maintain on-line budget records and monitor expenditures for the library book budget, verify budget codes and availability of funds; acquire, prepare and organize library materials; maintain fund accounts for materials purchased; enter requisitions and confirm payment of invoices; check in, process and maintain on-line summary holdings for the library's inventory.
- Receive and catalog physical and digital library materials.
- Edit bibliographic records to maintain database records.
- Summarize detailed financial, bibliographic, and statistical records for special reports for the library, campus community, public and governmental agencies.
- Resolve patron conflicts and issues. Maintain security and enforce rules of conduct.
- Provide patrons with instructions regarding copiers, the network printing systems, print card dispenser, and microform printers; ensures network accessibility to public workstations; assist users to locate materials and information from audio-visual, reserve, periodical, and special collections; place online requests for patrons; operate and maintain media equipment.
- Act as lead for lower-level library staff. Oversee and train student and short term personnel; screen and process short term and work study paperwork.
- Conduct library tours and perform various clerical functions; answer the telephone and respond to inquiries and requests; direct calls or take messages; maintain accurate records online and in print format.
- Provide faculty with library assistance and materials as requested; advise and communicate with faculty regarding library policies, practices, and procedures.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Operation of one or more modules of an integrated library automation system, such as ExLibris ALMA/ Primo.
