Safety Manager

The Safety Manager develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive safety programs while supporting project teams throughout all phases of construction. This role serves as a trusted advisor to field operations, conducts audits and training, investigates incidents, and drives continuous improvement in workplace safety performance across multiple projects.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and enforce company-wide Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs to ensure consistent standards across all projects.
  • Conduct regular jobsite audits, inspections, and safety assessments to identify hazards and verify compliance with safety requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations on all assigned projects.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs, including toolbox talks and orientation sessions for employees and subcontractors.
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors to proactively identify and mitigate project risks before and during construction.
  • Track safety metrics, maintain accurate safety records, and prepare compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist project teams with developing and reviewing Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and site-specific safety plans.
  • Coordinate return-to-work processes and workers' compensation activities when necessary, ensuring timely and safe reintegration of employees.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety ownership, and continuous improvement across all projects and teams.
  • Participate in preconstruction planning meetings to identify potential safety challenges and requirements before project startup.
  • Use safety management software and related tools to document inspections, track incidents, and monitor corrective actions.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of construction safety experience with a General Contractor.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations and their application on construction sites.
  • Experience supporting commercial, healthcare, education, or public works construction projects.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to present safety information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with both field and office personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout Northern California.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety management, including safety training and OSHA-related compliance.

Skills & Qualifications
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification.
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification.
  • Experience managing safety programs on projects valued between $20M and $150M or more.
  • Experience developing and delivering structured safety training programs.
  • Strong analytical skills for conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Ability to use safety-specific tools and systems to track metrics, manage documentation, and support reporting.
Work Environment

This role operates primarily within active construction environments and project sites across Northern California. The Safety Manager frequently visits jobsites to conduct audits, inspections, and training, working closely with field operations, project management teams, and subcontractors. The position uses safety management software and Microsoft Office tools for documentation, reporting, and data analysis. Work involves regular travel between project locations and coordination with both field and office-based personnel in a fast-paced, schedule-driven construction setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
