OPEN/PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY

The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library is recruiting for one (1) Librarian II at the Tracy Branch Library. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced librarian ready to take on a visible leadership role within a dynamic branch setting. The selected candidate will help guide daily operations, support and mentor staff, and strengthen connections with the Tracy community while delivering excellent public library services.

This position plays a key leadership role within the branch by fostering a positive team environment, strengthening community partnerships, and helping implement systemwide initiatives at the local level. The Librarian II works collaboratively with Library Managers and system leadership while maintaining strong service standards and operational effectiveness at the branch. Incumbents work 40 hours a week including some evenings and weekends.

Incumbents in this position are included in the Civil Service System and are in a for-cause employment status represented by the Stockton City Employees’ Association Bargaining Unit. This recruitment is being conducted as an Open/Promotional recruitment. Current full-time City of Stockton employees may apply for this position as a promotional opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on a promotional list.

All other candidates may apply for this position as an open competitive opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on an open list. The appointing authority will have the option of requesting names from the promotional list or a combination of both. This list may be used to fill future vacancies. Prior to appointment, eligible candidates may be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting.

Responsibilities
  • Provide information services and guidance to library customers in the selection, organization, and interpretation of library materials, and in the effective use of equipment and facilities.
  • Review, evaluate, and select materials for addition to or deletion from the collections.
  • Build and maintain expertise in a wide range of resources and technologies to serve diverse community needs.
  • Plan, promote, and present effective library programming for all age groups and community interests.
  • Present book discussions and story times in the library, community venues, and/or virtual platforms.
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations to support education and promote library services.
  • Interpret library policies and procedures to the public; represent the library in meetings with citizens, library support/advocacy groups, or community interest groups.
  • Create, develop, prepare, and disseminate marketing materials for library programs and services.
  • Maintain awareness of current technology trends and innovations and apply them to services and staff development.
  • May perform oversight duties in the absence of lead professional staff; may plan and direct the work of paraprofessional or support staff and part-time staff; may supervise limited-hours branches or units.
  • May plan or direct staff work and contribute to service improvements as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience

Librarian II
:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, and possession of a Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited school, and one year of experience as a professional librarian.

  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License within six months of appointment.
