DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a specialized single level support classification allocated only to the Child Development Center. The Early Childhood Education Teacher is responsible for planning the instructional, social, and physical activities for children within the Center. Responsibilities and Duties
Serve as a resource for student teachers and volunteers in the Center by modeling appropriate engagement and educational techniques answer questions as specifically and detailed as possible; refer students to other staff as appropriate.
- Basic operations and services of a child development center.
- General principles, techniques, theories, concepts, and practices of early childhood education and child development including proper redirection and care.
- Multiple developmental, cultural, biological and environmental factors that affect behavior and children's development and learning.
- Child guidance principles and practices.
- Basic instructional methods and techniques.
- Basic computer skills including spreadsheets, databases, and information searches.
- Safety practices as applied to classroom and playground activities.
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations governing child care and development centers.
- Demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm when working within the Child Development Center;
Serve as an appropriate, effective, and positive role model while working at the Child Development Center - Actively and closely monitor and oversee the activities of children.
- Ensure a cheerful and safe learning environment for children.
- Observe and follow regulations of the California Community Care Licensing, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), California Department of Social Services (CCTR), and California Department of Education (CSPP) and health and safety regulations.
- Handle stressful situations.
- Work independently, think critically and identify and solve problems.
- Apply knowledge, practices, and procedures of Early Childhood Education.
- Learn, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Give and follow verbal and written directions and instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
