Position: KIPP Para educator High School 2627

Position Summary

Part‑time (20 hours per week) role under the direction of the Education Specialist or other certificated employee. The Para educator will assist with academic and behavior support duties in special and regular classrooms, both in‑person and virtually, to complement instructional programs and maximize learning opportunities for students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with academic, behavioral, or functional needs.
  • Education: Title I paraprofessionals must have a high school diploma or equivalent; an A.A. degree, a B.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in progress); or pass the ETS Para Pro Assessment (score ≥460) or CBEST.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist students in small‑group or one‑to‑one settings to reinforce or follow up learning activities in core academic, language, and specialized subject areas (in‑class and distance learning).
  • Implement behavior intervention plans using positive reinforcement strategies and behavior modification techniques.
  • Facilitate social interactions and support positive relationships between students with disabilities and their peers.
  • Model appropriate behavior and provide emotional support and general guidance to all students.
  • Support students on field trips, school assemblies, and productions.
  • Provide testing accommodations, including supervision during extended‑time exams.
  • Maintain accurate data trackers and student progress logs; observe and report on student progress.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom environment.
  • Assist physically disabled students with personal hygiene and self‑help tasks.
  • Report suspected health problems to appropriate school personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and classroom information in accordance with legal requirements and KIPP policies.
  • Provide instructional support during temporary absence of the Education Specialist.
  • Attend IEP meetings, parent‑teacher conferences, and student study meetings.
  • Engage in professional growth activities provided by KIPP Bay Area Public Schools and self‑directed training.
  • Maintain consistent, on‑time attendance during school hours.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands
  • Physical: Navigate school settings; use technology; occasional lifting of 1–20 lbs; physical agility for various positions.
  • Mental: Handle deadlines; analyze problems; work with interruptions; long‑term concentration; read, calculate, memorize.
  • Environmental: Work in a school environment with constant interruptions and distractions; follow health and safety guidelines.
Classification and Compensation

Part‑time, ~20 hours per week, non‑exempt, based on the school‑year calendar. Paid over a 12‑month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break.

Hourly rate: $20.00–$24.00 per hour. Annualized pay is significantly higher than district peers due to additional school‑break pay.
