San Joaquin Delta Community College District is seeking an Adjunct Associate Professor in Health and Fitness. The ideal candidate will share in the college's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
JOB DESCRIPTIONUnder the general supervision of the Division Dean, the Adjunct Associate Professor of Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) teaches organized classes primarily in the Health Sciences discipline(s); the primary responsibility is to teach up to 10 units (part-time) in the assigned discipline. The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations, and how these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded and culturally responsive practices in the community college setting.
- Applicant must be able to meet the minimum educational qualifications set forth by the District and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
- Bachelor’s degree with two years of professional experience or Associate’s degree with six years of professional experience.
- A registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) current License
- Two (2) years of nursing experience (either RN or LVN)
- One (1) year of verifiable experience as a licensed nurse (RN or LVN) providing care to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care home, home care, hospice care or other long‑term care settings.
- Completion of course(s) in teaching adults OR 1 year of verifiable experience in teaching adults OR 1 year of verifiable experience supervising nurse aides
- Meet the CA Board of Registered Nursing requirements
- Experience in teaching postsecondary courses in Health Sciences, Nursing Assistant Program, or RN program
- Knowledge of basic ADL Skills, personal care skills pertaining to resident care in a long‑term care facility
- Ability to perform and instruct skills according to the CA Department of Public Health
- Ability to supervise and assist at least 15 students in long term care facility
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student’s abilities, learning styles, culture and ethnic groups.
- Demonstrated experience teaching in a variety of settings including but not limited to online, dual enrollment and large lecture. A willingness to develop and utilize instructional materials including lectures and labs for multi‑modalities.
- Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques (lecture and labs) and equipment, including the use of multimedia hardware, current applications, and online instructional strategies. Working knowledge of Canvas is particularly desirable.
