Minimum Qualifications

Education: Any combination of education and experience which would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.

Experience: At least five (5) or more years of professional level mechanical engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a position which involved serving as project engineer or resident engineer on construction projects. Possession of a Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the project, or resident engineer level experience.

License/Other Requirements: Valid Certificate of Registration as a Mechanical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration (Associate level) is required. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be considered for accommodation on a case-by-case basis. Possession and proof of a good driving record as evidenced by freedom from multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for at least two (2) consecutive years.

The driving record will not contribute to an increase in the Authority s automobile insurance rates.

Job Description:

Under general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer performs a wide variety of technical field and office engineering work associated with various activities, programs and facilities. Responsible for all mechanical design and engineering support associated with the installation, modification, maintenance and testing of mechanical systems and equipment associated with Authority facilities. Coordinates major mechanical repairs, modifications, or testing with various government agencies, Member Agencies, and divisions within the Authority.

Provides administrative duties, including the coordination of departmental maintenance and operations as assigned; and related duties as required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: developing preliminary and final cost estimates, designs, and technical specifications; reviewing troubleshooting or test data; updating electronic drawings and technical documentation; preparing proposals and contract/bidding documents for outside contractors/consultants; project inspection/coordination/management and contract administration; preparing reports, budget estimates, and data for engineering projects; coordinating with outside engineers/consultants; participating in long-term project planning; maintaining Authority design files;

liaising with utilities, regulatory bodies, planning agencies, and developers; presenting to the Board of Directors; and contributing to continuous improvement through standards and productivity indicators. Safety responsibilities include preparing Job Hazard Analyses and following the Authority s Hazardous Energy Control Plan.

Technical Skills/Capabilities: Read and interpret equipment blueprints, technical manuals and troubleshooting diagrams; design, plan, organize, manage, and develop mechanical engineering projects; perform detailed and complex engineering analyses; create/modify drawings/models using AutoCAD and Inventor; manage contracts; communicate effectively; develop budgets; work independently and with teams; produce clear reports and correspondence; and work under time pressure. Proficiency with engineering software at an intermediate or advanced level is expected.

Typical Physical Activities & Environmental Factors: Travel as needed; work in office and field environments; lift up to 25 pounds; operate office equipment; ascend/descend stairs; exposure to sun and variable temperatures; use PPE where required; may work at heights or in confined spaces; noise and dust exposure; irregular hours as needed.
