The Test House Apprentice supports the efficient machining, preparation, and testing of mechanical and metallurgical samples. Position Summary
The Test House Apprentice supports the efficient machining, preparation, and testing of mechanical and metallurgical samples. The role assists the Test House Manager with daily activities and contributes to timely, accurate testing operations while adhering to company procedures, technical standards, and health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure efficient machining and preparation of mechanical testing and metallurgical samples
- Assist the Test House Manager with daily tasks
- Produce mechanical test samples to specified sizes and tolerances using appropriate machining equipment including bandsaws, lathes, and horizontal milling machines
- Machine and polish specimens to appropriate surface finishes
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Oceaneering operating procedures, relevant specifications, and client requirements
- Undertake other duties of a reasonable nature as required by management, including NDT after appropriate training
- Carry out work in accordance with Company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems
- Ensure all test house equipment is maintained in good condition, regularly checked for accuracy, and calibrated against known standards
- Complete work in a timely and efficient manner to meet deadlines and adjust priorities as required
- Perform mechanical testing as directed by the Test House Manager
- Maintain and implement technical standards
- Ensure safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, as far as reasonably practicable, to maintain a safe working environment
- Carry out work in accordance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Systems
- Perform assigned tasks with due diligence in relation to the Integrated Management Systems
- Eliminate waste, suggest environmentally friendly substances and practices, and contribute to continuous environmental improvement
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities
- Candidates must live local to the Stockton area
- Preferred for apprentices: GCSE pass in English, Maths, and Science
- Share information from management with employees and others as appropriate
- Give and receive constructive feedback
- Ensure individuals involved in projects are kept informed of developments and plans
- Maintain regular and consistent communication within the area of responsibility
- Undergo and pass a medical examination
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
