SUMMARY: Designs, assembles, tests, and troubleshoots UL508A-compliant electrical control panels. Works across disciplines, particularly with hydraulic systems and industrial automation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and build UL-compliant electrical control panels for hydraulic power units and other industrial systems.
- Integrate components such as soft starts, VFDs, relays, breakers, and contractors.
- Develop and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts (AutoCAD or similar tools).
- Select and source components that meet project and compliance requirements.
- Assemble, wire, and troubleshoot electrical panels on-site.
- Ensure compliance with UL508A, NEC, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Collaborate with mechanical/hydraulic engineers and technicians on integrated system builds.
- Assist with testing, startup, and commissioning both in-house and occasionally in the field.
- Take initiative on various tasks in a small, team-oriented shop environment.
- Interacts and collaborates effectively with internal and external team members to ensure needs of the company are met.
- Interfaces with outside vendors as required.
- Upholds Hydraulic Controls quality procedures and processes.
- Travel occasionally.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 3+ years of experience building and designing UL electrical panels, ideally for industrial applications.
- Strong knowledge of motor controls, soft starters, and VFDs.
- Familiarity with UL508A, and NEC.
- Ability to read, interpret, and create detailed electrical schematics.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Must be willing to be flexible and contribute to different aspects of the business.
- Ability to read and understand work instructions, schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Experience with hydraulic systems or integration of electrical controls with hydraulic machinery.
- Familiarity with PLCs and basic automation controls.
- UL508A Panel Shop certification experience.
- Experience with field commissioning, technical support, or customer service.
