Ghirardelli Associates is currently looking to hire a
Resident Engineer for Railroad Projects. This position will be based out of our Stockton Office. This is an opportunity to work with an experienced team of professionals!
The Resident Engineer (Railroad) will lead the oversight and management of railroad infrastructure construction projects. This role ensures contractor compliance with project specifications, FRA and AREMA standards, and safety protocols. The Resident Engineer will act as the primary liaison with clients, contractors, and rail stakeholders, ensuring project goals are achieved efficiently and safely.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIncluded but not limited to...
- Oversee railroad construction projects, including field inspections and management of office services during construction.
- Monitor contractor progress, use of approved materials and equipment, and schedule materials testing.
- Review and respond to contractor RFIs, submittals, and design changes; prepare independent estimates for change orders and negotiate accordingly.
- Document construction progress through daily reports, weekly meetings, and summary preparation.
- Prepare written documentation, including correspondence, reports, proposals, and performance evaluations.
- Conduct field inspections to monitor compliance with FRA and AREMA standards, SWPPP, building codes, environmental documents, and other regulations.
- Coordinate and lead client and contractor meetings, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
- Manage tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, CCOs, and contingency balances.
- Evaluate contractor proposals, conduct quantity takeoffs, and review material testing data.
- Resolve utility and railroad-related issues and ensure adherence to railroad-specific safety and environmental regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) License in California (required).
- Minimum of 3+ years working in construction project management or as a Resident Engineer with public agencies.
- CCM and PMP Certifications are preferred.
- Strong familiarity with FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) and AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) standards.
- Strong communication, verbal and written, is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling software, SharePoint, and project management tools.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
