Assistant Engineer Municipal Utilities Department (MUD)

The City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Engineer to join our team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to perform a variety of professional engineering duties related to the planning, design, and construction of public works and utility infrastructure projects.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of a Senior or Associate Civil Engineer, the Assistant Engineer will be responsible for a variety of engineering assignments associated with the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of municipal utility facilities and public works projects.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience related to:

* Distribution and treatment of drinking water

* Collection and treatment of sanitary sewer systems

* Collection and conveyance of stormwater systems

* Engineering design and construction management practices

* Public infrastructure planning and development

Knowledge of sewer pump stations, water treatment plants, and wastewater treatment plant processes is highly desirable.

What You'll Do

* Assist with planning, design, and construction of utility and public works projects

* Prepare engineering studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates

* Review engineering calculations and technical documents

* Coordinate with consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and City staff

* Conduct field inspections and evaluate project progress

* Support the delivery of critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure improvements

We offer a flexible 9/80 work schedule consisting of nine-hour workdays Monday through Thursday, and eight hours every other Friday, with alternating Fridays off.

Work hours may be adjusted with supervisory approval. A typical schedulemayinclude Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Incumbents in this position are included in the Civil Service system, and are in a "for-cause" employment status represented by the Stockton City Employees' Association bargaining unit. (Classified/Represented)

This recruitment is being conducted as an Open/Promotional recruitment. Current full-time City of Stockton employees may apply for this position as a promotional opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on a promotional list. All other candidates may apply for this position as an open competitive opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on an open list. The appointing authority will have the option of requesting names from the promotional list or a combination of both.

This list may be used to fill future vacancies in the Municipal Utilities Department or Public Works Department.

Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and a medical examination which includes a back evaluation.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional engineering or surveying field and office work of a routine to complex nature, including development review, design and/or inspection of public works projects, and design and modification of traffic control devices; may develop recommendations for coordinating traffic improvement projects; performs related duties as assigned.
