The San Joaquin County Public Works - Engineering Division is recruiting to fill one full-time Licensed Land Surveyor vacancy and to establish an eligible list which may be used to fill future vacancies.
* Additional 4% increase effective July 2027

Pre-Employment Drug Screen and Background: Potential new hires into this classification are required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and a background investigation as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made unless the eligible candidate has passed the drug screen and successfully completed the background process. The County pays for the initial drug screen.

The overall mission of Public Works is to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain the County infrastructure, which includes public roads, transportation systems, bridges, water, wastewater, channel maintenance and solid waste disposal systems of the County, in order to best serve the interests of the people. The incumbent performs the review,
verification, and preparation of public
land documents, including parcel maps,
records of survey, and legal descriptions
to ensure technical accuracy and legal
compliance. In this role, the individual
analyzes complex property data, conducts
precise survey calculations against
existing records, and reviews special
district annexations. Additionally, the
incumbent drafts official reports, consults
with public and private agencies, and
provides daily work direction to office
staff and field survey crews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience :
Eighteen (18) months of land survey work including reviewing maps and legal descriptions of property.

License :
Registration as a Civil Engineer prior to January 1, 1982; or possession of a valid license as a Land Surveyor; or eligibility to obtain a license as a land surveyor as specified in Business and Professions Code  within six months of application. Applicants who are eligible to obtain a license as a land surveyor within six months of application must obtain their license within the first year of appointment.
