STUDENT WORKER OPPORTUNITY
Hourly Salary: $23.00
Requirements: (Ages 16-19), who live in Stockton
Hours per week: 30 hour maximum for 5 weeks
The compensation for this program is grant funded and will be available for the duration of the program only.
The City of Stockton is hosting the Annual Youth Employment Summer Success (Y.E.S.S.) Program. The Y.E.S.S. Program will provide youth ages 16-19 with employment experiences with the City of Stockton. Student Workers will be introduced to the possibilities of pursuing a career with the City in various departments to include:
Public Works, Municipal Utilities, Community Services, City Manager, Economic Development, and Information Technology.

Under close supervision, participates in on-the-job training; assists City departments in providing a wide variety of services; and performs related duties as assigned.

This single classification is used for temporary appointment(s) to provide job training for regularly enrolled or continuing students. The City of Stockton’s Internship Program is designed to give sector job experience by giving interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff. This position may also be used within the Youth Employment Summer Success (Y.E.S.S.) Program to provide students between the ages of 16-19 the opportunity to gain employment experiences.
Internship and Student Worker participants will vary widely based on the training assignment and the department program needs.
- Assists in a wide variety of tasks within various City of Stockton departments.
- Performs field, clerical, technical, or paraprofessional work.
- Coordinates special projects with various City departments, specialized staff, other jurisdictions, community-based organizations, or the private sector.
- Assists in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data for entry into spreadsheets or department specified database software.
- Responds to requests for information and provides necessary customer service to members of the community, business organizations, and other City employees.
- Assists in researching and developing oral/written programs or reports for presentation.
- Provides information regarding City and/or department practices, procedures, and events, as well as operate computer systems and related software in the course of work.
- Reads and interprets typical business correspondences, reports, City/departmental policies, and records.
- Adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards City and department goals.
- May assist and participate in City events at other locations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Student Workers must be a resident of Stockton and be between the ages of 16-19 years of age at the time of application.
Other Requirements- Students in the Internship and Y.E.S.S. Program may work in various departments throughout the City and are required to work for the entirety of the program. Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) may be required based on department requirements. A uniform shirt must be worn during work hours.
- Applicants chosen must be present for in-person hiring sessions during the week of March 16, 2026.
- Some departments require passing a Live Scan background check and/or TB Test Clearance.
