Position Overview

The County is hiring for three positions in Aging and Child Protective Services (CPS). Application must be submitted online; paper applications are not accepted. All communications will be via email. The successful applicant must pass a DOJ Live Scan, pre‑employment background, and drug screen. The initial drug screen is paid by the County.

Typical Duties
  • Plan, assign, and review the work of a group of social workers engaged in providing social services and related functions; instruct new workers in procedures and techniques of interviewing, case recording, conducting assessments and evaluations, and developing service plans.
  • Deal with client complaints regarding services and refer problems to other agency staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in establishing and maintaining effective social service programs; assess community service needs; evaluate program effectiveness; and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Assist in developing community resources.
  • Analyze and interpret social service regulations, policies, procedures, and contracts; review cases to ascertain conformance with legal and procedural standards; and serve as an information resource for other staff regarding specific services.
  • Explain departmental functions and goals to community groups, local government officials, and other agency representatives; ensure that individuals entitled to services are made aware of program opportunities; interpret scope and limitations of departmental programs to recipients and interested parties; and research and answer public inquiries and complaints.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate social service programs with other agencies and individuals to ensure effective delivery of services; participate in developing uniform guidelines and procedures.
  • Review and develop interagency agreements relating to the provision of services for approval by administration.
  • Develop and participate in outreach, staff training, and public information for the specific program area.
  • Direct research studies and prepare reports.
  • Enter and retrieve information from an automated computer system; assist with training and problem solving for Social Workers.
Minimum Qualifications

Pattern I

  • Education/License: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work that included supervised field placement, or possession of a valid State of California Marriage and Family Therapy license.
  • Experience: Two (2) years paid full‑time social case‑work experience at a level comparable to Social Worker IV working in Child Protective Services or Adult Protective Services for a public or government agency.

Pattern II

  • Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral science, sociology, psychology, counseling, or a closely related social/human services field.
  • Experience: Three (3) years paid full‑time social case‑work experience, including one year of post‑qualifying master’s experience at a comparable level.

For All Patterns

  • License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
  • Special Requirement: Positions assigned to designated Children’s Services units may require incumbents to possess a Master of Social Work to comply with State regulation. Assignments to the Multipurpose Senior Services Program require one year of experience working with the elderly.
Knowledge

Principles and techniques of supervision, training, and casework consultation; basic human behavior; social work theories, principles, and casework techniques; interviewing techniques; social and economic needs of the service population; basic management principles; the function of public social service agencies and the principles of public social service administration; social research methods; principles, methods, and resources in the field of public health, mental hygiene, education, correction, and rehabilitation as they relate to public social service;

principles of community organization; resources available in the community for referral or utilization in social service programs; and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
