This examination is being conducted to fill three vacancies in the Behavioral Health Services department and to establish an eligible list for future openings. Potential hires must successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen and a background investigation. The County pays for the initial drug screen. Final appointment is contingent upon completion of both screenings.

• Plan and develop a mental health program for mentally ill, disabled, or emotionally handicapped clients.
• Conduct and participate in staff meetings to ensure effective coordination of work; hire, train, and evaluate staff.
• Select, assign, supervise, and evaluate subordinate professional and paraprofessional personnel in the performance of social casework, record case histories, and related matters; assign cases and assist subordinates with difficult cases.
• Prepare and manage the program budget; maintain records, reports, and correspondence; requisition supplies as needed.
• Consult with medical personnel and other staff on social and environmental issues affecting clients and their families.
• Participate in training programs that teach diagnostic and treatment methods; coordinate the social work program with community services and treatment facilities.
• Supervise and participate in interdisciplinary conferences to determine illness, recommend treatment plans, perform clinical assessments, and conduct pre‑release studies.
• Interpret and implement policies and procedures; monitor program effectiveness.
• Represent Mental Health Services at conferences, address groups, and advocate for the civil and service rights of clients and families.

• Must possess and maintain a valid license as:
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC); or
  • Psychologist.
• Education: Masters or doctorate from an accredited university in social work, counseling, psychology, or a discipline acceptable to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for licensure.
• Experience: Two years of progressively responsible licensed casework experience, including counseling or therapy in a clinical or treatment setting and one year of supervisory experience.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license.

Principles, practices, and techniques of psychiatric social casework; employee supervision and training; qualified social work placement methods; social aspects of disability and mental illness; contemporary methods of treatment.

Plan, assign, and supervise subordinate personnel; prepare program budgets; manage reports, records, and correspondence; develop and maintain relationships with clients, families, and community agencies; analyze information and make sound decisions; communicate program objectives to personnel and public agencies.
