Operations Supervisor

Overview

Transit America Services, Inc. is currently seeking an Operations Supervisor in Stockton, CA to join our team. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision, qualification and compliance of operating personnel. Along with project safety oversight and training program facilitation.

The pay range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000.

• Manage train and train crew assignments while interfacing with the agency and host railroads to ensure full contractual compliance.
• Perform fitness-for-duty checks and monitor daily operational performance, train movement, delays, and passenger incidents.
• Maintain engineer and conductor certification records in accordance with 49 CFR Parts 240 and 242, ensure Part 228 Hours of Service compliance, and perform Testing Officer duties under Part 217.
• Review and correct employee time reports, biweekly payroll timesheets, schedule vacations, and fill crew vacancies.
• Prepare daily OTP reports and monthly operating statistics while tracking employee work hours.
• Conduct engineer certification evaluations, qualify new hires upon completion of OJT, and provide classroom or refresher training as required.
• Maintain current knowledge of all applicable rules, regulations, and operating procedures, ensuring full compliance at all times.
• Serve as a resource to crew members by providing guidance on policies, regulatory requirements, and troubleshooting equipment.
• Interface daily with the Mechanical Department to coordinate track securement, train washes, and other operational needs.
• Promote continuous process improvement and apply sound judgment in operational decision-making.
• Interface with Agency and TASI departments, passengers, Federal and State regulatory bodies (FRA, CPUC), host railroads (UPRR, Amtrak, PCJPB(Caltrain), BNSF), law enforcement, and emergency personnel, vendors, partners, and Herzog employees at all levels to support train operations.
• Maintain a flexible schedule to respond to project needs as required.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a certified locomotive engineer, be qualified on the assigned territory as a train operator and train attendant, and be able to pass the Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers written examination as defined in §240.105.
• No rules or safety violations.
• Five plus years’ experience in supervision or similar roles overseeing 10 or more employees.
• Must successfully pass the forklift training program and become a certified forklift driver.
• Some college level education preferred.

• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
• Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

• Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to one-half mile.
• Maintain balance for an extended period of time while train is in motion.
• Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
• Work in a confined access/space environment with a width of 16 inches.
• Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
• Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
• Able to tolerate repetitive movements, squatting/bending, and overhead reaching.
• Able to lift up to shoulder height and horizontally transfer up to 35 pounds for a distance up to 10 feet.
• Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods of time.
• Regularly reach overhead.
• Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment with a force up to 20 pounds.
• Regularly ascend/descend a platform with a height of up to 36 inches from the floor.
• Regularly ascend and descend an 8 step ladder while carrying up to 20 pounds.
• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
