Transfer Truck Driver - Part Time

The San Joaquin County Public Works - Solid Waste Division has part-time employment opportunities for the Transfer Truck Driver position. This recruitment will be used to fill those part-time positions and to establish an eligible referral pool which may be used to fill future part‑time opportunities.
Additional 4% increase effective July 2027
Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Background: Potential new hires into this classification are required to successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen and a background investigation as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made unless the eligible has passed the drug screen and successfully completed the background process. The County pays for the initial drug screen.

Operates transfer trucks, backhoes, bulldozers and other light and heavy equipment; drives loads to other sites; dumps and reloads trucks.

Performs light to heavy physical labor when not operating equipment. Makes routine repairs and adjustments to equipment; regularly checks or inspects brakes, lights, tires, fuel levels, and auxiliary equipment; does routine preventive maintenance.

Prepares and maintains records of day's work activities; may maintain other records as required.

Experience: Two years of paid experience in operating and maintaining heavy trucks.
License: Possession of a valid Class A California driver’s permit at time of application and valid California Class A driver’s license at time of appointment.

The principles and practices of heavy truck and light and heavy construction equipment operations and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety procedures relative to operation of equipment; traffic laws.

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; perform heavy manual labor, occasionally under adverse conditions; operate and service heavy trucks and other equipment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
