Program Specialist- Library Driver​/Clerk; Part-Time

Are you a friendly, team-oriented person that likes to drive? If so, the part-time position of Delivery Driver/Clerk may be for you! The Community Services Department of the City of Stockton is made of Library and Recreation and delivery duties are shared between the Delivery Driver/Clerk and other part-time drivers. Delivery routes start at the Chavez Library in downtown Stockton and routes are spread throughout San Joaquin County.

The incumbents in this position will work no more than 960 hours per fiscal year.

Prior to appointment, eligible candidates will be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting, as well as a medical back evaluation.

This class is responsible for the transport of a variety of library materials within the library system. Work is performed under supervision and within clearly established guidelines.

Possession of a high school diploma or GED. Driving experience involving the pick up and delivery of materials is desirable.

• Must possess a valid California driver's license.
• Must be physically able to lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds.

• Efficient operation of a light van, truck or other delivery-type vehicle;
• Traffic laws and regulations;
• Safety principles and practices related to the operation of a delivery van or truck;
• Basic English language usage;
• Basic business arithmetic.

• Operating a delivery van or truck in an efficient and safe manner;
• Observing traffic rules and regulations;
• Following oral and written instructions;
• Sorting, stamping, collecting, and delivering mail and other library materials and items;
• Performing simple clerical work and making basic arithmetic calculations;
• Establishing and maintaining working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
