Your roleOperations Manager, Microbiology is located at 2169 West Park Court, Stone Mountain, GA 30087 USA. Your mission will be to manage a department and provide leadership to departmental supervisors in the activities of their subordinates in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures in the execution of testing client samples.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain systems that ensure proper methodologies are being utilized in conformance to client requirements.
- Administer corporate human resource programs relating to employee recruitment and retention, compensation, training and development, equal employment opportunity, performance appraisal, and employment record documentation.
- Analyze and interpret data and provide guidance in correcting discrepancies before results are released to client service personnel and/or client; ensure data is established in compliance with proper methods.
- Ensure corrective actions are appropriate for preventing errors and that documentation is completed with follow-up as per SOPs.
- Support company initiatives related to systems within the laboratory; work with other department leaders to implement methods and provide training to others.
- Communicate emerging client requirements to departmental personnel as needed.
- Work with internal and external auditors to provide information to ensure quality systems are used in testing procedures.
- Develop and maintain expertise in food science and related technologies through available resources and peer expertise.
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other systems required to complete responsibilities.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes.
- Initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or test procedures, addressing resource needs and ensuring materials are ready for use.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Frequent contact with client service personnel is necessary to provide results, answer questions, check on progress of projects and obtain information for analytical procedures. Occasional contact with clients to discuss requirements; regular contact with vendor representatives to order materials and ask questions about new products. Regular contact with management at other locations to provide analytical information.
At any time, the incumbent must behave in an ethical and Code of Conduct compliant manner.
Your Profile Knowledge2-5 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent; or a Masters degree. A thorough knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, food science or related fields is necessary to supervise personnel and interpret results. Broad knowledge of food science is needed to obtain accurate analysis results. General knowledge of LIMS is needed to review results and correct discrepancies. Client relation skills are necessary to answer questions and advise on processes.
Proficiency in standard operating methods gained as a microbiologist, chemist, or food scientist is needed for supervision. Budgeting, organizational and planning skills are essential for operations. Supervisory skills are required to ensure proper daily operation of tasks.
The incumbent ensures that analysis is performed within specified time limits and results are accurate. Uses technical expertise to determine solutions to problems that occur in the laboratory. Uses references to locate methodologies for requested tests. Timely resolution of analysis problems is important for client relations. Follows company procedures and policies, with guidance as needed. Determines schedules and priorities for laboratory personnel and plans actions to improve efficiency and quality.
Changes in decisions are discussed with laboratory management before implementation.
The incumbent receives general guidance; long-term objectives are established with supervisor approval. The incumbent is responsible for direction of laboratory activities, including quality control and analysis of client samples. The actions have a moderate impact on the company and a significant impact on the department.
ManagementThe incumbent supervises all departmental personnel and coordinates the laboratory with other departments and internal administration.
