Compensation

Wages for Finishing Machine Operator start at $22.33 per hour up to $26.83 per hour depending on skill level and experience. Additional $0.50 shift differential for 2nd shift and a $0.75 shift differential for 3rd night shift.

Job Summary

The person who occupies this position is expected to adjust gluing machines in order to process a flat carton order and oversee its production (complex glue experience a plus).

Job Functions
  • Adjust glue machinery to fit the particular style of carton being processed.
  • Maintain machinery at optimum speed; detect and correct malfunctions quickly.
  • Ensure crew members working on gluer machinery operate efficiently and safely; train feeder/catcher trainees as necessary.
  • Assume duties of the Feeder or Inspector when those persons are on breaks; perform these activities for approximately 2 hours per day.
  • Perform maintenance duties on gluer machinery: greasing, oiling, blowing off machinery, glue pot maintenance, bearing and belt replacement, and cleaning parts.
  • Maintain written and electronic (SAP) records of quality and production; use Ignition software for hourly statistical measurements (carton alignment, edge caliper, opening force, glue length, etc.).
  • Make labels per customer specifications.
  • Teach and help fellow operators troubleshoot all problems when called upon.
Background / Experience / Skills
  • 1‑2 years of machine operator experience required.
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude.
  • Entry‑level computer skills.
  • All requirements for Machine Gluer Operator plus the ability to set up and troubleshoot Leary, Mactron, Alpina, and Pafra glue systems.
  • Feeder/Inspector experience preferred; mechanical experience helpful (automotive, small engine repair, etc.).
  • Finishing machine, allen wrench, screwdriver, and related tools needed for make‑ready; SAP, RF Gen, and Ingition systems.
Schedule Requirements
  • Schedules up to 12‑hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off.
  • Ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends; punctuality required.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Routine lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasional team lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, visual acuity (near and far).
  • Reading computer screens or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Workplace conditions extremes of heat (up to 100 degrees in summer), humidity, noise (must wear hearing protection in the finishing area).
  • Working knowledge of finishing machine (gluer) and mechanical aptitude.
