School Crossing Guard

The DeKalb County School District is seeking an experienced and professional School Crossing Guard. Ensures the safe movement of children to and from school when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in traffic and guiding children across the roadway or intersection.

Essential

Job Duties:

• Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections
• Escorts children across the roadway or intersection while holding a stop sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles
• Monitors the conduct of children and reports negative conduct of students to the appropriate authority
• Attends monthly in-service training and strategic planning meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• A valid Georgia driver's license is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of DeKalb County Public Safety policies, Georgia traffic laws, traffic signals/patterns, and safety procedures.
• Skill in working with children and adults, including safely holding and displaying a handheld stop sign.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work in all weather conditions, and maintain effective, courteous relationships.
• Ability to use technology to complete daily tasks and exercise sound judgment in ensuring children's safety.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round with good physical conditioning, mobility, and awareness of traffic patterns.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Constantly required to exchange accurate information.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery.
• Constantly observes details at close range.
• Frequently remains in a stationary position.
• Occasionally moves about inside an office.
• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
