Special Education RISE Teacher

Job Description

Stoneham Public Schools is seeking an experienced special educator to work with students at the Central Middle School whose lessons are given primarily in the school's RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Environments) Program.

The role requires training and expertise in specialized instructional methods, assessment, and extensive knowledge of research‑based best practices to teach students with individual educational plans (IEP). The teacher will provide intensive, specialized instruction to address IEP goals and objectives, collaborate and consult with classroom teachers, school adjustment counselors, BCBAs, and classroom support personnel, participate in ongoing data team meetings, closely monitor the progress of all students in the RISE classroom, teach subjects, and conduct academic evaluations for initial and annual student evaluations.

Knowledge of formal diagnostic assessments and the ability to interpret and analyze results to provide oral and written evaluation and progress reports is required.

RISE is a multi‑tiered program that serves diverse students with a wide range of interests, abilities, and skill sets, focusing on social thinking, self‑awareness, executive functioning, perspective‑taking, and emotional and sensory regulation. The mission is to provide a supportive, cohesive, and challenging middle school learning environment for students with difficulties in academics, social thinking, executive functioning, and emotional regulation. Students receive intensive academic, social, emotional, executive functioning, and/or communication support, with instruction in a substantially separate special education classroom.

ABA principles are infused with reinforcement systems and consistent behavior management programs. Services include supported inclusion, small‑group activities, and incidental teaching strategies for grades 6‑8. Goals center on increased skills in academics, recreation, social, communication, self‑care, motor, behavior management, flexibility, and self‑advocacy. The program collaborates with an interdisciplinary team including BCBAs, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school adjustment counselors, psychologists, and more.

Activities are individualized to promote generalization and include core curriculum participation and special classes.
