PreK After-School Program Director

Location:

Stoneham, MA

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8-hour shift; must be available to work until 6:00 PM

Work Setting:
On-site, Pre-K classroom and office; indoor/outdoor programming during summer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated PreK After-School Program Director to lead and develop high-quality early childhood programming for children ages 2–5. The Director will oversee daily program operations, support staff, ensure compliance with Massachusetts EEC regulations, and create an engaging, inclusive environment that promotes children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

This is a year-round position with programs operating from approximately 9:00 AM–6:00 PM, including Wednesday half days during the school year, as well as summer and school vacation programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee engaging early learning and preschool enrichment programs.
  • Assess new students and plan orientations and family tours.
  • Create and deliver age-appropriate, play-based and hands-on learning activities.
  • Supervise children by sight and sound and maintain a safe, positive classroom environment.
  • Address behavioral concerns and establish consistent classroom rules and procedures.
  • Develop curriculum aligned with Massachusetts EEC standards, including language, literacy, numeracy, physical development, and social-emotional learning.
  • Supervise, observe, mentor, and support early childhood staff.
  • Lead weekly curriculum meetings and monthly staff meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable EEC licensing regulations and health and safety requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with children and families through regular communication, newsletters, and family events.
  • Assess program outcomes and implement improvements to maintain high-quality programming.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Oversee enrollment, maintain accurate records, manage program budgets, and collaborate with organizational leadership.
  • Complete additional duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • EEC Director I or Director II certification from Massachusetts required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of early childhood education experience, including demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts EEC licensing regulations and early learning best practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must successfully complete a CORI and background check in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, dependable, and able to serve as a positive role model.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Passion for creating a supportive and enriching environment for young children.
  • Ability to work until 6:00 PM.
Physical & Work Environment

Position requires regular walking, standing, bending, kneeling, running, pushing, and pulling.

Ability to move items weighing approximately 25–50 pounds.

Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors and in varying New England weather conditions.

Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Position requires regular use of computers and office equipment.

Work environment may range from quiet to loud and includes both office and classroom settings.
