Responsibilities
The role of the Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry-level designation in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP).
Responsibilities include:
- Perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and guidance from the Clinical Educator or Preceptor.
- Collect and analyze patient data pre‑, during‑, and post‑hemodialysis treatment, document in the medical record, adjust the treatment plan as necessary, and notify appropriate team members.
- Assess, collaborate, and document learning needs of patients and families, and provide ongoing education.
- Collaborate with direct and ancillary patient‑care staff to deliver safe and effective hemodialysis therapy.
- Administer medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms, documenting justification and effectiveness.
- Assist with emergency response measures.
- Serve as a resource for the healthcare team, participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
- Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures; reschedule missed or insufficient collections.
- Identify expected outcomes, update the nursing assessment and plan of care through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide patient awareness regarding transplant and treatment modality options.
- Complete CAP requirements to advance within the program.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
- Direct patient care involving heavy lifting and assistance with patient ambulation.
- Frequent, prolonged standing; ability to bend over.
- Movement of equipment up to 200 lbs. and lifting chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. to a height of 5 feet.
- Work environment in a healthcare facility with controlled temperature and moderate noise.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases.
- Desk and computer work, interaction with patients, staff, and physicians.
- May require travel to training sites or other facilities.
- May perform essential functions at other locations with similar demands.
- Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge.
- Requirements for supervisory role: completion of all FKC education and training, minimum 9 months RN experience, and minimum 3 months chronic/acute hemodialysis experience as an RN.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current state licensure.
- Current or completed CPR BLS Certification.
- Meet state practice requirements.
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience.
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred.
- Hourly Rate: $39 - $56, depending on location and qualifications.
