Diesel Mechanic

Position Description

Ryder is hiring an experienced Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Pay: $35.75 per hour, with hourly pay and bonus incentives. The role offers a second shift schedule (3:00 pm – 11:30 pm) and weekly pay.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Two or more years of classroom training and work experience in required area is preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred
• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Execute standard vehicle and component maintenance, inspections, and repairs
• Conduct preventive maintenance
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer equipment when applicable
• Identify root causes of basic failures and perform necessary repairs
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Carry out facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers and drivers to determine nature of complaints once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation tools
• Adhere to all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required, such as Service Island support
