Job Description
This role is distinct from marketing or general content writing and is focused on technically complex, compliance‑driven client proposals. Engineering teams and technical subject‑matter experts contribute advisory input on scope, assumptions, and technical approach. The Technical Proposal Writer synthesizes this input into a cohesive, compliant, and professional final product that clearly communicates technical solutions to client audiences. This role supports the continued professionalization of the proposal function by protecting engineering capacity while improving the quality, predictability, and efficiency of client‑facing submissions.
It is designed for a hands‑on individual contributor who thrives in deadline‑driven environments and brings strong judgment, organization, and technical communication skills to complex proposals. This is an individual contributor role with no people‑management responsibilities.
- Lead the development, drafting, and editing of technical and narrative proposal content from planning through final submission.
- Translate opportunity requirements, technical concepts, and solution approaches into clear, structured, and reader‑focused proposal narratives.
- Ensure proposals are accurate, complete, compliant, and aligned with client requirements prior to submission.
- Maintain a consistent professional voice, terminology, and structure across all proposal sections.
- Identify content gaps, inconsistencies, or unclear assumptions and proactively drive resolution.
- Identify required technical and engineering subject‑matter expertise for each proposal.
- Issue targeted, time‑boxed requests for technical input focused on scope, assumptions, and technical accuracy.
- Coordinate technical reviews and incorporate feedback into proposal content, resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Develop, maintain, and refine proposal templates, outlines, checklists, and standard technical language.
- Establish and follow consistent proposal workflows to support predictable delivery and quality outcomes.
- Capture lessons learned from proposal efforts and applied improvements to future submissions.
- Track basic metrics such as cycle time, review iterations, and rework drivers to support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with business development, engineering, and other stakeholders to align scope, messaging, and timelines.
- Provide clear and concise status updates throughout the proposal lifecycle.
- Surface risks early and recommend adjustments to content, scope, or schedule as appropriate.
- Proposal content is clear, well‑structured, technically accurate, and tailored to the intended audience.
- Technical inputs from engineering are efficiently integrated without excessive rework or disruption.
- Proposals progress smoothly from outline to final submission with early alignment on scope and assumptions.
- Stakeholders experience predictable proposal execution and clear communication.
- Templates and standard language mature over time, improving efficiency and consistency.
This role requires a strong technical communication foundation and the ability to work effectively with engineering and technical subject‑matter experts. Relevant experience may be gained through education, professional experience, or a combination of both.
As part of the interview process, we may request anonymized or redacted examples of relevant proposal work (e.g., outlines, narrative sections, or edited content). Depending on the level and scope of responsibility, we may also include a brief, time‑boxed live or in‑person exercise using a simplified prompt to better understand approach to structure, clarity, and technical communication.
Compensation and level will be commensurate with experience, education, demonstrated skills, and scope of responsibility.
