Position: Engineer I Electrical - Nuclear

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. (ZNE) is seeking an Engineer I, Electrical for a direct‑hire position in our Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC office. This position is not remote.

Position Synopsis

Successful candidate will perform a variety of engineering and design activities involving power plant upgrades and/or new power plant projects under the supervision of senior engineering staff, applying standard engineering methods and calculations to improve plant performance, safety, and reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with calculations, modifications, and designs for electrical power distribution systems.
  • Collaborate on project teams to evaluate conditions, propose modifications, and develop design changes.
  • Perform walk‑downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including ladder climbing, confined space entry, and other required field tasks.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently, managing time effectively.
  • Travel to client sites and perform field and office work as required.
  • Maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and comply with security and drug‑screening requirements.
  • Provide written and verbal communication and presentation of engineering findings.
Qualifications
  • Education (required) – BS in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • Experience (required) – Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, load‑flow, voltage drop, and short‑circuit calculations; proven through academic record or work experience.
  • Other required skills – Excellent verbal and written communication, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency, effective time management, and ability to understand and comply with company policies.
  • Preferred education – MS in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • Preferred experience – Experience in the nuclear power industry, field experience on nuclear plant projects, and modeling using ETAP or SKM.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam completion desirable.
