Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will independently perform advanced engineering and design activities supporting commercial nuclear power plants and related facilities. Candidate must have advanced engineering knowledge and professional judgment to evaluate plant systems, resolve complex technical issues, develop engineering solutions, and support major project initiatives. This role requires the ability to lead engineering assignments, coordinate technical efforts, and provide guidance to junior engineers while maintaining a high standard of technical quality.

This position may serve as a key contributor to project success and may act as a technical lead for specific projects, systems, or engineering disciplines.

  • Engineering Design & Analysis – Independently perform calculations, analyses, evaluations, and design for nuclear plant mechanical systems/equipment. Develop solutions for modifications, upgrades, replacements, and modernization. Prepare/review calculations, reports, specifications, evaluations, and design packages. Apply engineering principles, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Solve complex technical problems with practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Plant Systems Evaluation – Evaluate system/equipment performance, reliability, and operability. Investigate failures and emergent issues. Recommend improvements in reliability, safety, maintainability, and performance. Support design modifications and long-term engineering initiatives.
  • Project Leadership – Lead engineering assignments and manage technical scope. Coordinate multidisciplinary teams. Plan/execute work to meet schedules, budgets, and quality goals. Support proposals, planning, and estimates. Serve as a technical resource.
  • Client & Team Collaboration Work with utility clients on engineering initiatives and project execution. Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and client interactions. Present recommendations to clients and review boards. Mentor junior engineers and support best practices/standards.
  • Nuclear Quality & Compliance - Ensure products meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company procedures. Participate in technical reviews and QA activities. Stay current on nuclear industry trends, technologies, and regulations. Promote technical excellence, quality, and continuous improvement.

Experience/

Educational Requirements:

  • Required –

    Qualifications:

    BS in Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, or related engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7+ years relevant experience with active PE, or 10+ years without PE. Experience in design, analysis, plant modifications, system evaluations, or capital projects in industrial/energy/nuclear settings. Ability to independently execute assignments, manage technical scope, and coordinate multidisciplinary work.
  • Advanced mechanical engineering knowledge; ability to perform/review complex calculations and analyses; understanding of codes, standards, regulations, and processes; working knowledge of plant systems and performance evaluation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and prioritization skills. Ability to lead technical discussions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with engineering analysis tools (Mathcad preferred).
  • Preferred – Qualifications
  • Commercial nuclear experience; system modifications, power uprates, equipment replacements, or modernization; plant operations/reliability/system engineering support; responsible engineer or technical lead role. Mechanical system design/analysis, evaluations, reliability/lifecycle management, design change packages, performance assessments. Active PE preferred; mentoring experience.

  • May be required to obtain/maintain unescorted nuclear plant access; pass security and drug screening; travel to client sites; perform plant walkdowns (ladders, controlled/confined areas); work overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements: May be required to obtain/maintain unescorted nuclear facility access; pass security screening and drug testing; perform equipment/system walkdowns in industrial environments (including climbing ladders, elevated areas, confined/controlled spaces); work overtime as needed; travel periodically to client/project sites.
