Position: Electronic Technician (REQ 337)

Overview

Applied Physical Sciences Corp (APS) seeks a highly skilled electronic technician with hands‑on experience to support prototype and product fabrication. Relevant experience includes a recent training graduate (associate’s degree or technical school) though 5+ years of experience is preferred. Successful candidates will have excellent electronic skills working with printed circuit boards (PCBs), wire cables and harnesses, and wiring of electronic chassis.

This is a full‑time position at our Pawcatuck, CT facility requiring daily collaboration with the Prototyping & Fabrication Department management team, engineering staff, and fellow technicians. Interviewees will be required to successfully complete a short proficiency test that includes hand soldering.

APS works on exciting, technically challenging research and development programs where multidisciplinary teams address difficult national security needs. Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • PCB soldering and assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
  • Wire harness assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
  • Chassis wiring and assembly per electrical drawings and instructions.
  • Assist Electrical Engineers with prototyping, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic sub‑assemblies.
  • Organize, maintain cleanliness, and manage the electronics lab space and electrical work cell floor areas.
  • Support the organization, maintenance, and cleanliness of the shop area floor space.
  • Support the maintenance of electronic test equipment.
Required Skills and Attributes
  • Strict adherence to process, careful attention to detail, and accountability for quality and timeliness of work.
  • Knowledge of basic electronic principles.
  • Expert soldering skills for surface mount components down to 0.5mm pitch MSOP ICs and 0402 passive components; soldering proficiency will be tested.
  • Reading schematics and board layout files, signal tracing, and implementation of non‑fragile prototype modifications and signal break‑out.
  • Basic computer skills for email communication, timecard entry, and internet research.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination for job safety.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • IPC‑A‑610 or J‑STD‑001 certifications are a plus.
  • Experience using an oscilloscope, waveform generator, hi‑pot tester, handheld meters, power supplies, and other basic lab equipment.
Security Clearance

Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance. Obtaining a security clearance is a condition of employment and typically requires U.S. citizenship and a thorough background investigation.
