Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Visual Communications or related field.
  • Three (3) years of full time experience designing digital graphics and multimedia content for web and marketing channels.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro), Figma and/or similar UX/UI tools.
  • Experience creating responsive web graphics, animated display ads, and short-form video content.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS for design implementation.
  • Understanding of UX/UI principles, accessibility standards (WCAG), and web best practices.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional years (4+) of full time experience designing digital graphics and multimedia content for web and marketing channels.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Experience with in a higher education environment.
Brief Description of Duties

The Digital Graphic & Multimedia Designer is responsible for conceptualizing and producing high-quality digital visuals that support Stony Brook University’s brand, marketing initiatives, and user experience across platforms. This role creates web graphics, animated display banners, video content, and UX/UI mockups, ensuring all visual outputs are engaging, accessible, and aligned with institutional standards. The position collaborates closely with web, social, and content teams to enhance storytelling, improve usability, and elevate the university’s digital presence.

  • Design and produce digital graphics for web, email, and marketing campaigns, including homepage banners, landing page visuals, and promotional assets, ensuring consistency with Stony Brook’s brand identity.
  • Create animated display ads, motion graphics, and short-form video content optimized for web and social platforms, including concepting, storyboarding, and execution.
  • Develop UX/UI mockups, wireframes, and design prototypes for websites and digital products, collaborating with developers and strategists to improve usability and user journeys.
  • Partner with content, social media, and marketing teams to translate campaign goals into compelling visual storytelling across channels.
  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA), including color contrast, typography, motion considerations, and inclusive design practices.
  • Maintain and evolve design systems, templates, and reusable components to support scalability and consistency across the university’s digital ecosystem.
  • Stay current with design trends, tools, and emerging technologies to continuously elevate creative output and introduce innovative approaches.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
