Description

Stony Brook University's Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS) invites applications through the State University of New York (SUNY) Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Plus (PRODiG Plus) Postdoctoral Fellowship program in the broadly defined area of computational science. PRODiG Plus is designed with two primary goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion;

and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of those faculty. Additional information on the PRODiG Plus Fellowship can be found at https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

IACS faculty hold joint appointments with a campus department and the Institute, and are expected to develop a rigorous, interdisciplinary, and computation-forward research program that enhances both their home department and IACS. Applicants must demonstrate that computation is a core driver of their research program, not merely an auxiliary tool. Computational science at IACS is not domain-specific; it is defined by the centrality of computation-modeling, simulation, large-scale data analysis, and modern AI/ML-as the primary scientific, scholarly, or creative methodology.

Our faculty and students advance the intellectual and algorithmic foundations of computation while applying them to impactful scientific and humanistic questions. For example, at the Institute we currently have four research themes:
Human-Centered Computing, Climate & Communities, Discovery of Molecules and Materials, and Frontiers in Computation. Applicants whose work aligns with these themes are welcome, but such alignment is not required. We strongly encourage applications from scholars and creators whose computational research opens new frontiers or bridges multiple disciplines.

The SUNY PRODiG Plus Fellowship program offers a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty position at the lecturer level to commence in Fall 2026. The Fellow will be a part of a mentored research environment and, with successful performance and demonstrated contribution to inclusion, diversity, and equity, will be invited to join the tenure-track faculty at Stony Brook University after two years.

We seek candidates whose research advances computational methods in any area, inclusive of physical, environmental, social, or computational sciences; engineering; arts, humanities, or related fields. This candidate would be expected to work interdisciplinarily and could be based in any department affiliated with the IACS. The successful candidate would be expected to leverage Stony Brook University's high-performance computing resources.

The PRODiG Plus Fellowship is open to any and all prospective candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex, and is consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. All application submissions will be assessed and evaluated in accordance with the required eligibility criteria.

Stony Brook prides itself on attracting an incredibly diverse student body, including many first-generation immigrants and first-generation college students. Recent studies have shown that Stony Brook is one of the top universities in the U.S. for supporting the upward mobility of its students.

About IACS

IACS was established in 2012 with a transformational $10 million anonymous donation plus matching funds of equal value from the Simons Foundation. IACS core faculty expertise spans chemistry, materials, astrophysics, atmospheric science, linguistics, ecology, sociology, applied mathematics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and the arts. IACS affiliate faculty represent an even broader range of disciplines throughout Stony Brook and beyond.
