Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • One (1) year of full‑time experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services at the college or university level working with students.
  • Highly proficient professional experience in word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic messaging, and internet applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in academic advising with undergraduates, particularly within an engineering student population.
  • Experience coordinating programs and events; planning or participating in new‑student orientation.
  • Knowledge of engineering disciplines and student population needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous, comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate CEAS students with a focus on one of the departments within CEAS from matriculation to graduation.
  • Advising in individual and group settings, including communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Develop advising strategies, outreach, tracking, and retention efforts aligned with College and institutional goals.
  • Evaluate student records and degree audits each semester and use data and analytics to identify areas for intervention.
  • Update advising materials such as requirement checklists and departmental websites.
  • Assist in the evaluation of applications for majors, minors, and specializations.
  • Assist with reviewing and processing applications for the CS Honors and Accelerated BS/MS program.
  • Collaborate with the CSE Undergraduate Program Coordinator to monitor course enrollment and recommend solutions for scheduling and enrollment issues.
  • Recommend and support selection of scholarship recipients for departmental scholarships.
  • Participate in transfer and freshman new‑student orientations and provide course recommendations during orientation.
  • Process transfer course/credit evaluations.
  • Develop and implement tutorials, how‑to guides, and communications to keep students informed of deadlines, policies, and requirements.
  • Provide instruction for new‑student seminars each term and supervise, train, and evaluate an Academic Peer Advisor serving as a teaching assistant.
  • Plan and execute CSE departmental events, including those for the Computer Science Honors Program and BS/MS program, to promote community and engagement.
  • Participate in CEAS convocation, Engineering Ball/Hall of Fame, and other college events; attend major/minor events and campus advising events.
  • Initiate, plan, and execute College‑wide events such as Opening Week and other College traditions.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned, consistent with departmental mission and rank.
Additional Information
  • Full‑time appointment; exempt under FLSA, not eligible for overtime provisions.
  • Eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
  • No sponsorship for work visas.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
