Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One [1] year of full‑time experience working with students in an academic setting.
  • Highly proficient professional experience in word processing, spreadsheet management, electronic messaging and internet applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling or related discipline.
  • Experience in academic advising, working with undergraduates.
  • Experience working with an engineering student population and/or knowledge of engineering disciplines.
  • Experience interacting with a diverse student population, including international students.
  • Experience coordinating programs and/or events.
  • Experience teaching student‑development courses, facilitating workshops or leading presentations.
Brief Description of Duties

The CEAS International Student Success Coordinator works with F‑1 undergraduate students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) and coordinates efforts that support their academic and personal success. The advisor provides high quality proactive academic advising; develops realistic academic road‑maps to graduation with students; helps students navigate the University; refers students to other relevant advising departments; and connects students to appropriate campus support resources.

The advisor assists with retention‑related tracking, reporting, and outreach to support students toward graduation. This position is an active leader and participant in assisting with the orientation and registration process for international freshmen and transfer students, planning events and activities throughout the year, developing and implementing advising success strategies for international students in academic jeopardy, and building connections with faculty, staff, and student constituents.

The successful incumbent will work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. They will have strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

Academic Advising
  • Provide high quality, proactive and timely advising to students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) with an emphasis on CEAS F‑1 students. Such advising will occur in individual and group settings, and will include regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements and policies/procedures.
  • Help students develop meaningful educational plans that are compatible with career and life goals, including selection of appropriate courses and interpretation of institutional requirements toward established goals.
Program Coordination
  • Within the assigned cohort, evaluate student records and degree audits each semester and utilize data and analytics to identify areas for intervention.
  • Work closely with Visa and Immigration Services to stay current with policies for F‑1 students. Assist with training CEAS staff on the implications of these policies on advising practice.
