Description

The Program in Public Health at Stony Brook is seeking to hire one (1) instructor for a non‑tenure track faculty position. The successful candidate will possess the experience and skills necessary to offer innovative instruction for our MPH Program with the potential to contribute to other degree programs that we offer. The Program in Public Health holds accreditation by both the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for the MPH, and the Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) for the MHA.

The MPH program is primarily delivered in a traditional face‑to‑face modality with some hybrid and online courses depending on the concentration. Areas of specialization include community health, health policy and management, advanced epidemiology and biostatistics, climate solutions and health, and a generalist option for clinical students. We especially encourage applications from candidates who can contribute to our teaching mission in topic areas related to quantitative methods including but not limited to biostatistics, epidemiology, data analytics, and research methods.

The base salary for this position is $100,000–$120,000 per year. In addition to the base salary, candidates are eligible for $4,000 annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Responsibilities
  • Teach graduate courses and provide career advising, including faculty supervision with applied practice.
  • Complete a teaching load of equivalent to 7 courses over each 12‑month period (87.5% teaching, 12.5% service).
  • Participate in departmental and institutional service.
  • Attend professional development opportunities, conferences, workshops, and maintain membership in relevant professional organizations.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in public health or related field and at least two years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated or potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree, PhD or DrPH, (or foreign equivalent) in public health or related field.
  • At least two years of experience teaching biostatistics, epidemiology, or data analysis at the graduate level.
