Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of full-time professional experience in a post-secondary educational setting. In lieu of a Master's degree, a Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and three (3) years of full-time professional experience in a post-secondary educational setting. Experience leading or overseeing a program in a post-secondary educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related discipline. Professional experience at the post-secondary level or higher working with high-achieving students. Teaching experience. Experience conducting presentations, including facilitating discussions. Experience interacting with a diverse student population in a post-secondary educational setting..

Brief Description of Duties:

The University Honors Programs fosters and supports a vibrant and inclusive community with some of the highest achieving students at Stony Brook University. The Honors Programs include Honors College, University Scholars, WISE Honors, and Yardi Scholars. These academic programs enrich students’ undergraduate careers with holistic advising and student support; interdisciplinary and innovative seminars; rich co-curricular programming, and leadership development opportunities. The Honors Programs Lead Academic Advisor plays a critical role in programmatic oversight and student educational success.

The Lead Academic Advisor will provide individual and group advising and teach a student success course. The Lead Academic Advisor is an active leader and participant within the unit and will advise students through their entire undergraduate years; coordinate a program with activities related to student success and organizational goals; assist with course registration; plan and participate in events; and build meaningful connections with campus constituents.

The successful incumbent will have excellent student service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the ability to work independently, as well as part of the University Honors Programs team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Academic Advising and Administration:
  • Provide high-quality, proactive academic advising to undergraduates in the University Honors Programs. Such advising will occur in individual and group settings on an ongoing basis and will include regular communication about courses, majors, degree requirements, policies/procedures, and campus resources.
  • Provide 1:1 and group advising for new students regarding academic planning, policies, course requirements, and the process of registration.
