The Stony Brook School seeks a gifted, mission-aligned Math teacher who loves mathematics, loves students, and sees teaching as a work of Christian formation. This position will likely center on Pre-Calculus Honors, with opportunities to teach advanced junior- and senior-level courses depending on departmental needs and the candidate's background.

Founded in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a coeducational Christian college-preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 7–12. Located on a 55-acre campus on Long Island's North Shore, SBS combines academic rigor, authentic Christian faith, and a diverse global community.

We are seeking a teacher who loves mathematics, loves students, and sees teaching as a form of Christian formation. The ideal candidate will bring strong mathematical preparation, excellent classroom instincts, and a desire to help students grow in their pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty.

Our Math Department offers a robust range of upper-level opportunities, with six courses and nearly 100 students pursuing mathematics beyond AP Calculus. In the 2025–26 school year, SBS had 22 AIME qualifiers and four USAMO candidates.

Strong candidates will demonstrate:
  • A bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field; master's degree strongly preferred
  • Three or more years of successful teaching experience
  • A clear Christian commitment and an educational philosophy aligned with the mission of The Stony Brook School
  • Skill in designing rigorous, mission-aligned curriculum, lessons, assessments, and learning materials
  • Experience leading student-centered math instruction, including inquiry-based learning, problem-based lessons, mathematical discussion, and collaborative problem-solving
  • A growth mindset and eagerness to develop as a teacher, mentor, and colleague
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A collaborative spirit and desire to contribute to a strong departmental team
  • A commitment to Christian scholarship, character formation, and the life of a boarding-school community
Life at SBS

SBS faculty are active members of a vibrant boarding and day school community. Beyond the classroom, full-time faculty typically teach 4–5 classes, lead or assist with 1–2 co-curricular commitments, and participate in the residential life of the school.

Faculty responsibilities may include coaching athletics, leading clubs or co-curricular programs, supervising evening or weekend activities, chaperoning events, proctoring study halls, supporting community meals, and mentoring students outside the classroom.
