Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to either inpatient or outpatient units where they have daily contact with patients. The team member greets visitors and directs them to appropriate locations, answers telephones, performs data entry activities, maintains daily and clinical logs, prepares, updates, and maintains patient charts and files, fills out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mails patient letters, and delivers supplies and records to an assigned unit.

• Orient patients and/or family to unit, provide general information regarding the room, unit, and hospital, and serve as a contact person to patients and families.
• Give information on patient condition within existing policies and direct visitors to the appropriate locations.
• Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse; and fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions.
• Receive new admissions.
• Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log, and clinic log.

• Eligible list appointment:
  Must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1.
• Provisional appointment:
  One year of full‑time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience in a health‑care setting; must take the Nursing Station Clerk 1 examination when offered and be reachable on the resulting eligible list.
• 55b/c appointment:
  Must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.
• Section 70.1 transfer:
  One year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1.

• Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
• Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
• Provide copies of any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s).

• Part‑time, evening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM, every other weekend, variable pass days.
• Salary range: $36,232 – $38,235 per year (pro‑rated by part‑time hours).
• Salary grade: SG7.
