Position: Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee - Full Time Evening Shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM)

Position Summary

Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee (Full Time Evening Shift, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM) greets visitors and directs them to appropriate locations, answers telephones, performs data entry, maintains daily and clinical logs, prepares and updates patient charts and files, fills out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mails patient letters, and delivers supplies and records to assigned units.

Duties
  • Orient patients and/or families to the unit, providing general information regarding the room, unit, and hospital, and serve as a contact person.
  • Give information on patient condition within existing policies and direct visitors to the appropriate locations.
  • Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse; and by filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions.
  • Receive new admissions.
  • Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log, and clinic log.
Qualifications
  • Eligible for Nursing Station Clerk 1 on the Civil Service eligible list.
  • One year of full‑time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience in a health‑care setting.
  • Eligibility for 55b/c designation and current 55b/c eligibility letter are required.
  • One year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services.
  • Complete an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
  • Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s) or certificate(s).
  • Failure to comply may result in a delayed start date or revocation of the employment offer.
Salaries and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $36,232 – $38,235 per year. Additional compensation may include a $4,000 location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full‑time positions and a $575 inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential. Stony Brook University Hospital offers generous leave, health plans, and a state pension.
